What are you afraid of? In Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, book one of the series, Jacob’s grandpa is afraid of demons and monsters coming to kill him. Jacob is afraid of losing his grandfather. Jacob’s grandfather went to this orphanage that he explains was amazing and happy with peculiar kids his grandfather took many photos of the kids and their “talents” which is what Miss Peregrine called them.
This is a good horror book. It’s filled with details and there are pictures included that are scary. Ransom Riggs went to yard sales and flea markets and weird local stores and found these strange photos and he built his characters around the photos.
I would recommend the book to people who like monsters and horror books and sci-fi because he goes back in time and it’s kind of a mystery because he has to solve it’s his grandpa lying to him or did this really happen.

The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, is the first book in the series. There is the Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. The Hunger Games is about games where there are 24 tributes 2 tributes from each district and they fight to the death. Katniss volunteers for her sister to go into the hunger games. Katniss is also going with Peeta Mellark who have a history. Katniss has to save herself and Peeta. The Hunger Games is violent and is confusing. I like the Hunger Games because there is action and violence.

Five students go into detention, only four come back out. This is an unlikely situation under most circumstances, but not in the book One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus. The tragic death of Simon Kelleher only has four suspects. They are the four people in detention with him. There are no other leads that the police find to give them any more suspects. The lives of four regular high school students will be changed forever. Those students are Bronwyn, the girl who lives by the rules, Addy, the pretty girl that all the boys chase, Nate, the criminal who is a drug dealer around the town, and Cooper, the athletic boy with colleges offering scholarships left right and center. Only one is guilty.
Karen M. McManus has written a story that will pull you into a situation that makes sure that you never will want to put the book down. This book will make you feel like this is a real situation with real tears, real relationships, real anger, and real fear. It will make you think about how lucky you are that you don’t have to worry about getting framed for murder or having your life fall apart in the blink of an eye. This mystery is a great book, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It deals with very sensitive topics that some people might not be able to read about. This book is best suited for anybody who can handle sensitive topics and is not easily upset. Overall, this is a great book if you are interested in mystery and drama.

It’s after midnight, and sixteen-year-old Mike Kowalski is driving fast. Too fast.
He’s in big, big, big trouble. In a book called On The Day I Died: Stories From The Grave,
Candace Fleming tells nine haunting tales and how there was almost ten! When Mike
Kowalski is driving down a road he meets a girl who needs a ride home. He discovers
her home is a cemetery. There he meets nine other kids, including the girl he just met.
They all were alive some time ago. But now they want to share their stories. Their death stories. Mike can’t leave until he’s heard every detail from each of them.
It’s super spooky & super scary. I thought it was a good book because it”s scary, it’s kind of funny, and each story is more terrifying than the last. Although I wish the author had been more to schedule; she jumped ahead a lot. I would recommend this book to people who like ghost stories. It has a nice spooky feel to it. This is the perfect book to read by flashlight in the middle of night. This fiction book sure is frightening! Don’t let it scare you!

Have you ever lived by a haunted tree? Well, in the the book The Crossroads by Chris Grabenstein, the main character, Zach does. Because of this a lot of people almost die. Zach almost dies because the ghost that lives in the tree had some unfinished business with Zach’s family.
Chris Grabenstein has written a story that will be sure to scare your socks off and make you feel a whole lot of emotions. This scary book is for ages 9 to 12 because it’s a little spooky but not that scary, so someone over 12 might think it’s weird just because it might seem a little cheezey.

The book Radiance is by Alyson Noel. Radiance is about a girl named Riley and how she crossed over to after life 1 year ago and how when she got there she was at a place called Now, and time was always then, and she wanted to see her sister again but she couldn’t. And she talks about how everything looks the same but no everyone is there because they are still alive. And she goes to a school and she she has a good life besides missing her sister, and she can think of something and it will appear. She also has her dog to that died with her. I recommend this book for people who like fiction and or realistic fiction then this is the book for you. This book is amazing and awesome, and when I read this book I don’t want to put the book down.

Have you ever watched Coraline? Well, I have and it was good but the book is even better! The author’s name is Neil Gaiman and the title of the book is Coraline. In the story there is this mysterious door and on the other side of it is a world creepily similar to her own where her family and friends are but with button eyes and really pale skin. The mother there takes Coraline’s real parents so she can’t go back to her real world. Another thing is that she has kidnaped other children before. Coraline needs to find her parents and then the children by 12:00, or she has to stay in that world forever. The problem leads to her making a deal with her imposter mother to get back her real parents and let the kids go. Does she make it in time before the deadline? You’ll have to read it to see what happens next!Neil Gaiman will make you think that she doesn’t make it in time and how you feel when you read it is nervousness. I recommend this book to people that like entertaining, challenging adventures.

Has the King family found their dream house or their worst nightmare? The book House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo carries the journey the King family goes through when they move to a suspicious house in the woods that looks like someone has been there and left in a hurry, abandoning their belongings in the house. After they move they learn some weird history about the place that might change their minds about the house. Robert Liparulo has written a story that will be sure to spook readers. This fiction story has gotten me more intrigued in horror books, so if you like horror books, you should read it.

If you love the tale of Perseus, you will love the book Snakehead by Ann Halam. It is about the life of Perseus before and during the time the evil king had the idea to send him to get Medusa’s head. The problem is Perseus is in love with Andromeda, but he has to go slay Medusa while Andromeda is off to be sacrificed to the gods. The problem leads to the creation of Pegasus and Andromeda meeting the gods. It will make you happy you are not a kid from Andromeda’s kingdom where human sacrifice of only kids happens during troubled times. If you like Greek mythology, you will like this book.

How would you feel if you were a vampire? The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer is kind of dark, but it pulls you into the story. The problem in the story is that a vampire named Riley and another vampire (whose name no one knows so they call her “Her”) are creating more vampires, and Bree and Diego are trying to find out why. The problem leads into a whole other big fight so you should read the book to find out what happens next. This book will make you feel a mixture of feelings from happy to sad to excited to mad, but I loved this book so you might, too.

Are you afraid of zombies? A book I recently read, ZOM-B by Darren Shan, is a great story about not only the zombie apocalypse, but also about the relationship between B, the main character, and her racist, abusive father. She believes that her dad is rubbing off on her and that she is becoming just as big a monster as he is. The problem begins when there have been reports of zombies over running parts of Ireland, but her father says it can’t be true. What B’s father doesn’t know is that in about a day the zombies will start over running their city of London. Darren Shan wrote a story that will make you be on the edge of your seat. When you read this book, you will be thinking, “What will happen next?” or “Who is that?” This fiction horror book is a great story. I would recommend it to horror fans or people that like the CIRQUE DU FREAK series, which is also by the same author. If you like books that have great details and a well written and well paced storyline, then you will be hooked on ZOM-B. You won’t be able to put it down. I know you will love this book so much you’ll just want to eat it up like a zombie. BRAINS!!!

I recently finished a book series not currently found in the JFDS library. The Last Kids on Earth follows Jack Sullivan, and to put it into his own words, POST-APOCALYPTIC ACTION HERO! Set in the once-charming little town of Wakefield monsters now roam the Earth. You’ll see your typical zombies, but you’ll also see some unique original monsters. Can Jack survive the monster apocalypse and complete the ULTIMATE FEAT OF APOCALYPTIC SUCCESS? Read to find out.

I’m reading a book called Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender. It’s a really good book so far, it’s about these two sisters names Alexis and Kasey. Now, their house is haunted so weird things are about to happen. Doors open and close by themselves, the curtains are flying crazy everywhere! It’s a horror story. I really like this book because I love horror stories, and the book is really interesting to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes horror and ghosts.

Don’t know if it counts as supernatural but it has horror stories with creatures.
I have been reading Creepypasta collection before I go to bed every night now. it is a collection of “creepy” or “scary” urban legends to scare you so badly that you can’t sleep.
(yes this has happened to me)
They’re pretty violent so I wouldn’t suggest this to kids under 11 or 12, but if you like horror stories it’s a great book! It was made by Mr.Creepypasta who is a YouTuber and you can find it on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Target, and WalMart. I promise you, you WILL be terrified.

    I give it ★★★★★

This story is about three kids, Poppy, Alice, and Zach that go on an adventure to bury a porcelain doll that has been haunted by a girl by the name of Eleanor Kerchner and if they do not succeed at their mission to bury Eleanor she will not let them rest peacefully when they die. I really liked this book because it’s very mysterious and adventurous. I recommend this book to people that like adventure and supernatural.

Over this summer I had a great opportunity to read many different books. I would have to say my favorite one though would have to be one that I had already read. It just so happened to be The Haunting of Sunshine Girl by Paige Mckenzie. Yes it is creepy but if thats what you like than this is the book for you. When it comes to Sunshine, the main character in the book, she is very lucky to have found such a good friend. He helps her figure out what is happening to her inside her new house in Nebraska. She hears a little girl walking around and laughing in the middle of the night the first day she is there. She figures it’s just a dream or her imagination but really it isn’t. It’s a test and a way to help save her mother from being taken over by an evil spirit trying to get through to the after world. Strange art teachers and long creepy days and nights along with scary twist might not end up working like she hopes, but the only thing she knows is that it wont be easy. Now I wont tell you what happens but I’ll tell you one thing. This book isn’t for the faint of heart. You have to be ready at every turn of the page for what might happen next. Good luck.

The astonishing Dead Girls Of Hysteria Hall by Katie Alender is a great suggestion for horror lovers. This read is about a young girl who moves into her grandmother’s home after she had committed suicide. In reality, this home is actually an old insane asylum. After living in this house for a few days, the girl begins to find herself going insane. Then, as her parents locked her in her room, and she fell asleep, some force made her claw her way out of the bars in the window, which killed her. Soon after, she meets some other “dead” friends, and finds out something that would she would never forget. There is a monster that kills anyone who enters the house. I don’t want to spoil any more of the story, but I think that it would be a good read for horror lovers.

This quarter I read the book Lockdown by Alexander Gordon Smith. It is about a boy named Alex Sawyer who steals money fro kids at his school and breaks into houses. He gets framed for murdering his best friend while stealing from a house. He is framed by prison guards. These are not ordinary prison guards from an ordinary prison. They are the guards of Furnace. Furnace is not an ordinary prison though. It is described in the book as hell on Earth. The guards are called black suits. Black suits have superhuman abilities like if they get shot in the leg it will have healed in 2 hours. Of course people on the surface have no idea of what really happens down in furnace. Some nights the blood watch would come and carry inmates away from their cells and mutate them into horrible monsters. Some times they would become black suits. The horrible creatures responsible for this are called wheezers. Wheezers are creatures that seam almost human except that they have gas masks sewn directly into their faces. Thats all I’m going to tell you about the main story because I don’t want to spoil it.

This book is not for young children. I think that kids younger than eleven should not be reading this book. There is a lot of swearing and gore. I think that this book would be for any boy or girl that loves horror, doesn’t mind bad language, and won’t be disgusted by the blood and gore. I picked up this book because I love books about prisons and asylums that do experiments on people that everyone believes is just rotting in a cell. In all there are five books in the series. It never gets boring at all. Its constantly action packed and super hard to put down.
On a scale of ten I would rate this book as a ten. The book can be funny some times too but most of the time its very serious. I personally think that they should make a movie based on this series. It would make a great horror movie.
