Consider heading downtown next Saturday, November 19th, to meet co-authors Donn Fendler, Lynn Plourde, and comic illustrator Ben Bishop, as they unveil their new book, Lost Trail: nine days alone in the wilderness. They will be at Bagel Central from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., and this event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Mrs. Patterson at school, or Mrs. Anderson, owner of the Briar Patch bookstore, and sponsor of this event, at 941-0255.

Blogs are one of my favorite ways of picking up the latest news in the book world. This School Library Journal blog, “Good Comics for Kids,” happened to have a very recent (Oct. 10) interview with Raina and her husband Dave Roman at the New York Comic Con.

And they’re off!

You, our Doughty student body, once again have shown what incredible readers you are, and it’s only the start of the school year!

Our first JFD Book Discussion Group opportunity will be taking place over four Tuesdays, beginning September 28 and running through October 26. We will be reading the book Smile, by Raina Telgemeier. Ms. Telgemeier wrote her autobiography, in graphic novel format, about when she was twelve and lost her two front teeth. Middle school can be hard enough sometimes, especially without your two front teeth!  EEEK!

If you find that you are busy on Tuesdays after school and would still like to read Smile, consider signing up anyway and meeting us on this blog. We have a page dedicated to talking about the book throughout the month of October!
