If you love books and reading, there is nothing more special than meeting authors in person. On Saturday, October 1st, there will be authors galore at the Bangor Public Library, the Discovery Museum and even Bagel Central, as Bangor celebrates it’s fourth annual Book Festival. Young adult authors such as Carrie Jones, Maria Padian, Jennifer Jacobson, Ellen Booraem, and Catherynne Valente will be presenting, reading, and signing books, all day at the Bangor Public Library.

Just head to the Bangor Public Library, and locate the Story Room, and you will be treated to FOUR different author programs starting on the hour, from 1:00-4:00. Amazing!

The Bangor Public Library!

I think it is fair to say the 25 of us (21 students and 4 teachers) had a great time at the Bangor Public Library this past Friday (12/17). New library cards were issued, piles of books were borrowed, and even Rupert the Bear was found!

Thanks to Kirk and his team of ten other JFD super sleuths, they managed to use the Public Library’s Letterbox Clues to successfully locate Rupert the Bear. Not only is it a difficult task, but they managed to do it in all of 20 minutes!

Thanks also to our team of teachers who joined us, Mrs. Mourkas, Mr. Evans, and Mrs. Estabrook. We couldn’t have done it all without you.

So, the question is–who wants to go again?

Beginning December 13 and running through December 23, the Media Center will be hosting the first annual mid-year BOOK SWAP! Gather up those middle-school friendly books you have read already and bring them in to swap with other JFD students. Let’s make this the best Book Swap Doughty has ever seen!

On Friday, December 17, we will be boarding a bus after school bound for the Bangor Public Library! If you haven’t been in the library’s Young Adult section in a while, or have never been, we hope you consider participating in this fun after school field trip!
