Students are folding tetrahedrons like mad these days at JFDS. Why, you ask? Well, our students have accepted the challenge of folding 4,096 tetrahedrons required to build a Stage 6 tetrahedron. This amazing challenge all began with our winter book discussion choice, All of the Above by Shelley Pearsall.

Pearsall’s story is based on a group of four middle school students and one math teacher who tried to break the Guinness World Record for building the largest tetrahedron–a Stage 7, with 16,354 pieces! Like the story, our James F. Doughty school community has gathered together to cut, fold, tape, and construct, the 4,096 pieces required to reach our goal.

Our final All of the Above activity will take place at JFD on February 28th from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Students, guests, and teachers will gather for an exciting conversation with Ms. Pearsall via Skype, fun Math “Minute-to-Win-It” activities, and sample some of the terrific recipes from the book made by our very own cooking club!
